What is Up North magazine?

How do subscriptions work?

Subscribers receive one new issue every month by mail. You will be charged automatically on the same date each month unless you cancel.

Depending on your sign-up date, your billing may be one payment ahead of the issue being mailed. This is expected, and you will receive each issue you pay for.

Subscriptions begin after the monthly cut-off date, and issues ship on or around the 25th of each month (e.g., March's issue ships February 25).

A portion of your subscription is donated annually to an environmental organization. At the end of each publishing year, details from each donation will be shared here.

Where do you ship?

Canada and the United States.

When will I get my first copy?

Shipping estimates are 1–2 weeks within Canada and 2–4 weeks to the U.S. These are estimates only, and delivery times may vary due to external factors.

Can I submit to Up North?

Yes! Written and photographic submissions can be sent through the Submit page in the main menu. Submissions are always open.

Can I cancel anytime?

You can cancel your subscription or update your mailing & payment information through your customer portal at any time.

What if an issue doesn't arrive?

If an issue does not arrive within the estimated shipping times (1-2 weeks within Canada, 2-4 weeks to the US) please contact me.

A replacement may be offered at my discretion if extra copies are available that month. All issues are shipped through Canada Post, I am not responsible for lost, delayed, or damaged mail.

Read more about Up North magazine.

Hi there! I'm Emily. I grew up with the Canadian Rockies in my backyard, so the land has always shaped me: alpine lakes, long, long winters, & boreal forest everywhere you look.

Up North is my way of exploring how people here live alongside seasons and landscapes, and the traditions that tie us to this place. I’m fascinated by the extremes of human-nature connection; the ways we survive and belong.

At its core, Up North also recognizes that these lands carry deep, complex histories. As a publication based in Canada, I’m committed to learning from Indigenous knowledge keepers, supporting truth and reconciliation, and honouring the people who have cared for these places since time immemorial.
